Miracle-GroŽ Soil Improvements are premixed blends that address specific soil deficiencies and improve soil structure. They can be applied at any time of year, and wherever plants are, or will be, to improve native, in-ground soil. Mix them with native soil before planting new plants or place them around existing plants and then cover with 1-2 inches of mulch.
Soil deficiencies or problems occur in three areas: Physical, Chemical, and Biological. Physical soil issues include problems with aeration or drainage, as well as the ability of the soil to hold water. Chemical issues include problems with soil pH and the ability of the soil to hold nutrients. Biological issues include problems with soil organisms, like earthworms.
Each of the Soil Improvement blends addresses a specific soil problem, but they can also be combined together to address each consumer?s specific soil needs. They also can be combined with Miracle-GroŽ Garden Soil products to provide an additional boost.
Miracle-GroŽ Hydrate is a premixed blend containing peat moss and coconut husk to improve soil moisture retention. It contains Sphagnum peat moss which absorbs 10-20 times its weight in water, and Coir from coconut husks increases the ability of sandy soil to hold water. Porous Sphagnum peat moss and coconut husks can also improve drainage in clay soil.
Miracle-GroŽ Balance is a premixed blend to help buffer soil acidity. It contains compost that helps increase the availability of nutrients in acidic soil. It also contains gypsum that helps minimize the effects of excessive salts in soil by replacing the salt on soil particles, allowing them to be easily leached from the soil.
Miracle-GroŽ Aerate is a premixed blend to help loosen compacted soil. It contains aged bark fines that create big pores, improving the movement of air and water through the soil which improves drainage in compacted soil and promotes vigorous root growth. The addition of gypsum helps prevents surface crust formation by replacing and leaching the excessive salts.
