The Dirt on our
Ultimate Potting Mix
Our unique potting mix works overtime providing a firm foundation, nutrients, water and air for plants. But what goes into the perfect mix?

Sphagnum Peat
Like a fine wine, good things take time - and our main ingredient is no exception. Prized by professional growers, our responsibly sourced sphagnum peat moss comes mainly from renowned Canadian peat bogs. It’s lightweight, breaks down slowly and holds a lot of water.

Aged Bark Fines
Regionally sourced bark fines, a byproduct of the lumber industry, are patiently aged for months before they're blended into our potting mix. Aged bark fines create ample space for better drainage and aeration for container plants. They also break down gradually, moving your plants and potting mix to long-term relationship status.

Plant Food
Meet the dream team of key nutrients. First, a fast-acting nutrient pack gets plants off to a great start. Then, slow-release food kicks in for physical (and moral) support throughout the season.

Perlite
Did you know your plants can get chummy with volcanoes? Perlite is a mineral derived from, yep, volcanic rock, that's been crushed and heat-treated to 1600°F until it pops into white, lightweight particles. It helps increase air space and improve water drainage.

Coconut Coir
It might look like the grounds for your morning coffee, but coir actually comes from coconut husks. It's in our Moisture Control® Potting Mix for its ability to hold large amounts of water and release it as plants need a drink.
Meet the People
Only the highest quality ingredients go into Miracle-Gro® potting mix
- but it’s our people who truly make the difference. Learn how the
ultimate mix goes from our concept to your store.

Research And
Development
Our Research and Development team drives innovation and scouts technologies to improve plant growth performance, ultimately blending just the right mix of ingredients to grow beautiful plants.

Procurement
This team gathers our quality ingredients — some of which would have gone to waste. The use of these materials, such as bark fines from the lumber industry, not only lets you grow beautiful and bountiful plants, but also gives them new life in your potting mix.

Manufacturing
And Distribution
This means blending, bagging and shipping our premium potting mix. And did you know that much of our product is locally made? The average journey from plant to store is about a two-hour drive.

Quality
This crew ensures the very best quality and consistency for optimal growing performance. In fact, we have more than 40 quality technicians across the U.S. who create and enforce industry-leading processes at our plants, inspect inbound raw materials and perform laboratory analyses to maintain the highest standards for our finished product.

Merchandisers
Finally, our merchandisers make sure Miracle-Gro® is out on display and available to purchase when you need it. That's more than 2,000 people itching to put the world's best potting mix in your hands.
